It’s been a week since I’ve had any work to do. My supervisor no longer schedules meetings, calls, or sends emails. When we cross paths in the hall, he avoids eye contact. Deep down, I know it’s over—I’m not getting a second chance.
At first, I was upset and angry, then a bit sad. I feel like I don’t deserve this; after all, all I wanted was to satisfy my manager and the company. I hope he realizes he made a mistake, but I know he’ll forget about me as soon as I step out of the office.
Embracing Self-Respect
Yet, surprisingly, I’ve loved the last week. I wasn’t stressed at all. Going to work with a smile, I wonder: Am I going crazy? No, it’s just that I love and respect myself, and I’m sure I didn’t do anything wrong.
I’m not responsible for my manager’s mood swings, his unrealistic goals, or his poor management.
